Creative and Hands-on Activities

You are here: Creative and Hands-on Activities

Cooking

These sessions cover a range of areas including: basic kitchen safety, how to measure your ingredients, as well as activities designed to help students learn to use the oven and the stove. At the end of the sessions children will have their own recipe book full of the different recipes they have made.

Gardening

In this activity we cultivate a fun and enriching experience by introducing the students to gardening. They will learn about the life cycle process, germinating seeds, and develop responsibility for caring for plants and the environment. They will definitely get their hands dirty and discover their green thumbs!

Art

This is for children who enjoy creating things and experimenting with different materials. They will look at the principles of art and how they can be used with a multitude of mediums.  This class is open to all abilities; you don’t have to arrive with talent, just be ready and willing to learn a new skill.  In the art mixed media session children will be drawing, sketching, painting and sculpting to explore their own creativity and love for colorful pieces of art.

Drama

The Primary drama activity develops confidence through interactive fun and enthusiastic workshops that teach drama techniques and skills. The Drama Hollywood heroes activity involves acting, making props and costumes, or set design and production, with the aim to put on a performance at the end.

In Secondary this year there will be the chance to perform the original Grimm’s fairytales - the dark and mysterious versions not the sweetened Disney ones. If students sign up they will be rehearsing one of these tales for performance at the end of the term.

Recycling craft and gardening skills

Green fingers wanted! Do you love gardening? Are you interested in growing things or exploring garden designs of the future? Then join this innovation. We will be growing a variety of plants in recycled containers that students may then bring home to enjoy. No experience needed but a love of plants is a necessity.

Primary Orchestra

This is an activity for students who play a band or orchestra instrument. Students will practice playing in an ensemble. We will practice playing scales and small chamber pieces and make sow beautiful music that we can share with others.

Mocktail Making

Make delicious mocktail drinks. This activity aims to engage learners because of its connection to everyday life. The mathematical ideas of measurement and ratio underpin work in vocational areas such as hairdressing when mixing hair dye and construction when mixing concrete. This activity requires students to understand and use common measures for volume, use estimation and measurement and understand and use ratios. At they same time students make healthy and refreshing drinks!

Secondary Orchestra

Orchestra will be for students who are already able to play an orchestral instrument, and who would like to play in an ensemble. This will mainly be flutes and violins, but other instruments (e.g. percussion) could be added later in the term if needed.
