Meet a few of our new teachers

Name: Ignacio Azor

Role at St Andrews Green Valley: Music Teacher

What was your previous role and where did you teach? In my previous role I worked as an IBDP Music and Theory of Knowledge Teacher at the High School Affiliated to Jiao Tong University, Shanghai, China.

Tell us a bit about yourself – where are you originally from and what do you enjoy doing in your free time? I am from Barcelona, Spain. In my free time, I enjoy nature and making music.

What are you most looking forward to about working at St Andrews Green Valley? Meeting my colleagues and the students, and being a part of an excellent school.

What inspired you to become a teacher and how do you aim to inspire your students? I know the value of good education and how much of an impact it can have on someone’s life. Also, I think society can be vastly improved through education. I believe in inspiring by example: if my students see how passionate I am about music and teaching, most likely, they will feel inspired and passionate themselves. It has worked so far!

What is your favourite memory from your own time at school? In high school, I liked writing. My literature teacher realized, so he offered to teach me how to write better during recess on Friday. I learned so much from that person, and for that I am grateful. I think good teachers really try to make the world a better place.

What is your greatest achievement or proudest moment? As of recently, I was featured in Microsoft Education’s Webinar titled “Innovative Music Education During Distance Learning.” You can watch it on their YouTube channel: https://youtu.be/mkPqtm0H5iE. Someone from Microsoft watched a YouTube video I made some time ago and sent me an email asking me to collaborate with them. I have to say I was pretty excited that morning!

What are you most looking forward to about living in Thailand? Before moving to Shanghai, I used to live in Ecuador. So I am looking forward to being back in nature and having the tropical weather—also, food and travel!

Name: Amy Goodson

Role at St Andrews Green Valley: Year 1 Teacher

What was your previous role and where did you teach? I was the KS1 and EYFS coordinator at St Stephen’s International School, Khao Yai.

Tell us a bit about yourself – where are you originally from and what do you enjoy doing in your free time? I am from Wales and moved to Thailand 8 years ago. I met my husband here and we have 2 children called Zach and Anora who are also here at St Andrews Green Valley. In my spare time I enjoy getting outside as much as possible for walks, picnics and beach days.

What are you most looking forward to about working at St Andrews Green Valley? I am looking forward to being part of such an exciting community with so many opportunities for myself and my children.

What inspired you to become a teacher and how do you aim to inspire your students? I love seeing children follow their interests and become passionate about learning. I aim to inspire children by giving them opportunities to explore topics that they love and maintain their natural curiosity for the world around them.

What is your favourite memory from your own time at school? My favourite memory of primary school is learning about Antarctica in Year 1. My teacher was so kind and his enthusiasm for teaching made every moment enjoyable.

What is your greatest achievement or proudest moment? My proudest moment is always seeing my own children happy and enjoying life.

What is your favourite thing about living in Thailand? My favourite thing about living in Thailand is the endless opportunities to explore locally and abroad.

Name: Daniel van der Fange, but everyone calls me Daan

Role at St Andrews Green Valley: I will be teaching Dutch in Primary School

What was your previous role and where did you teach? I worked as a Dutch teacher at the International School of Amsterdam.

Tell us a bit about yourself – where are you originally from and what do you enjoy doing in your free time? I am originally from Haarlem (near Amsterdam) in the Netherlands and I love to play and watch football in my free time. Back in the Netherlands I spent a lot of free time with my friends, so here I have plenty of time to do fun things with new friends.

What are you most looking forward to about working at St Andrews Green Valley? I am really looking forward to work in the beautiful environment of St. Andrew's GV. I find the green and open campus very inspiring.

What inspired you to become a teacher and how do you aim to inspire your students? When I was a kid, not all of my teachers saw every child's abilities and talents. I hope to be that teacher that values every child.

What is your favourite memory from your own time at school? In my last year of Primary School, the teacher gave us the freedom to work on our own learning projects. For me, working and learning together with my friends was fun and inspiring.

What is your greatest achievement or proudest moment? When I was hired by St. Andrew's Green Valley!

What are you most looking forward to about living in Thailand? I’m most looking forward to the weather and living outside. In the Netherlands it's wet and cold for 8 months a year, which is too much to be outside a lot!
