Head Student - Charlie Cronin

Head Student - Charlie Cronin

Charlie Cronin is one of the new Head Students to our school for this academic schoolyear. Get to know more about Charlie down below.
What would you like to say first now you are a Head Student?

First of all, I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who voted for me. It really means a lot. To everyone who voted for someone else, it's ok, because by the end of the year I'm sure you'll wish you had. Just kidding! Thank you for helping the other head students get elected - I couldn't wish for a better team. I am honoured to be representing, leading and working with all of you for the year to come. It's going to be great.

What would you like to get out of this year?

In a personal aspect I would like to be able to travel again this year. At school, I look forward to leadership experiences with the Student Council and the Senior Management Team. I want to make a difference to the school and I know that with the support of the soon to be student council and prefects we will be able to do just that.

What do you think we are good at as a school and where can we improve?

We are good at adapting to being online and we are very resilient. We have a good competitive attitude,  we love our sports and our Fobisia. We are well rounded and accepting of different cultures and that's pretty great. I think we can improve involvement in the Arts and Science activities that we have on offer.

What do you consider important values for our school community to live by?

Honesty, unity, commitment, respect, teamwork, resilience. The list goes on, but if I were to sum it all up to four key values; let's call them STAR values; they would be:
S - for scholarship (learning at a high level)

T - for tenacity (determination)

A - for altruism (selflessness, concern for the well being of others)

R - for respect (due regard for the wishes of others)
Any advice you would give to your future self that we can look back on at a later stage?

The answer is 42. Embrace more of the opportunities you have been given; don't shy away from opportunities that seem overwhelming because you can do it but you have to want to do it. Smile! And don't take things so seriously. And lastly, are you Ice Cube's sixth and final top 40 song in the US? Because 'You can do it'
What book has had the most impact on you and you would recommend others to read?

The Five People You Meet in Heaven, which teaches that:
- Everything happens for a reason
- Your sacrifices make an impact on the lives of others
- Forgiveness
- The essence of love
- Every life has a purpose
What movie would you recommend others to watch?

I quite like Shawshank Redemption . Being in the prison of lockdown, this movie shows how it's important to make sure you don't let despair break you and  the importance of real friends, teaches determination, not giving up and how one should always make the best of any situation.
What would have made you proud if we would look back at the end of this year?

Everyone has watched Shawshank Redemption
Everyone has read The Five People You Meet in Heaven
Everyone has had a good year and I was at least in part to thank
Any parting words to our community?

Thanks for giving me this opportunity, I can't wait to work alongside you to help make Green Valley even greener. May the Force be with you!
