Building peace one day at a time at St. Andrews
If you close your eyes and think of Peace, what do you see?
This is the sentence that the school focused on as we celebrated and learnt about a world with Peace. We wanted to think about ourselves and our actions and how it can create peace in the world. In the younger year groups we celebrated what makes us happy and how we can make others happy. The older students created pieces of art and writing to put on their pinwheels of peace to put up around the school and remind us that “Peace” can mean different things to different people. Early years celebrated together and participated in activities such as making friendship bracelets, meditation, dance, mandala colouring and painting a peace tree. Students also worked together to create a piece of art to put on display and be reminded that we are all responsible for peace in the world. Jude Law, a Peace One Day Ambassador, said “Awareness of Peace Day creates action and that action can save lives.” Lets hope our actions today at school will make a difference.
