Salient Student Leadership Positions Announced at St. Andrews International School
Green Valley doesn’t just pride itself on its academic success, but also the pathway it provides for successful leadership. Last week, students applied for the key leadership roles at the school of Head Boy and Head Girl. It was an exceptionally close contest, but we are delighted to announce that Atis and Mild have been appointed as the new Head Boy and Head Girl, respectively. Their deputies, Pierre, Sye and Pang will support them in their new leadership roles.
Atis and Mild are prominent students around campus and both are former Island Community Leaders. Atis is a straight ‘A’ student achieving eight A*s one A in his IGCSEs two years ago and is also an all-round athlete who has represented the school in a range of sports. Mr. McGee, Head of Secondary, said “He is an intelligent and articulate young man, who is able to speak to students of all ages.” Mild achieved nine A*/As in her IGCSEs last year and has been a prominent student council member for many years. Mild also organised last year’s secondary prom and is credited as the designer, creator and organiser of our St. Andrews’ varsity jackets. Mrs. Taylor, Senior teacher, said “Mild is a role model for other students and someone who will undoubtedly inspire students of all age groups to work hard and get involved in all aspects of school life. “
Mr. Harrison, Head of School, said “Interviewing for the positions was fascinating, and it is always great to see the quality of the students we have and they are all a credit to the school. We were so overwhelmed with the quality of the applicants this year that we have made the decision to extend the appointments and have a Deputy Head Boy and two Deputy Head Girls.”
These leadership positions are extremely important in our school community. Students wishing to be considered for the role must apply in writing, stating why they feel they would be a suitable candidate; they are then shortlisted for interviews by the Head of School and Senior Management Team where the final decision is made. The candidates also have to present their reasons why they would be a successful Head Boy or Girl to the Primary and Secondary students at an assembly.
All of us wish our new Head Students and their Deputies the very best over the coming year and we are sure they will be terrific ambassadors for St Andrews.
