Careers and University Guidance

Careers Guidance

St. Andrews students enjoy every opportunity to achieve future educational and life success driven by their aspirations, via our structured programme of Careers Counselling. Parent forums and information sessions are held alongside ongoing advice and guidance from our university and careers counselling team, who work to ensure that the university and course selected are the most suitable for a student’s chosen path. The team also has considerable experience in supporting applications to educational institutions all over the world.

The Careers Curriculum:

Careers lessons are offered to students from Year 10 onwards. In Year 10, students undertake the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® (MBTI®) personality inventory to assess the type of work environment that will best suit them. They also undertake skills audits to assess their competencies and put plans in place to develop these over the coming years prior to making applications to Higher Education or the workplace, They learn how to create written CVs and video resumes, and then practice interview skills which are put to practice in mock interviews ahead of their work experience in Term 3.

Careers beyond the classroom:

We regularly welcome visits from universities admissions teams during Careers time. We have welcomed visitors from universities in Thailand, Singapore, Australia, UK, USA, Canada and the Netherlands. Students enjoy a trip to the Bangkok University Expo in November at Siam Paragon and every two years we host a university fair here at the St Andrews Campus. In addition to visits from university admissions teams, we welcome visitors from various companies. Most recently, we welcomed a representative from tech giant INTEL, who shared their career and apprenticeship opportunities. As well as student talks, we offer information sessions to parents on Unifrog; the schools careers platform; future university destinations, and the university application process.
