  • At Key Stage 3, students study a broad and balanced curriculum of 13 subjects, giving them the opportunity to explore everything from the sciences to the arts, languages, and sports. This wide exposure helps build a strong foundation of curiosity, confidence, and knowledge across disciplines.

Key Stage 3 marks the beginning of secondary education at St. Andrews Green Valley, following the British curriculum. During these years, students study a broad and balanced range of subjects designed to build a solid foundation before entering IGCSE in Years 10–11. Subjects include: 

  • Core: English, Mathematics, Science, and Computing 
  • Languages: Thai, French, Mandarin, and Dutch 
  • The Arts: Drama, Design Technology, Music, Art, and PE 
  • Humanities: Geography and History 
  • Personal Development: PSHE, Tutor Time, Assemblies, and Co-curricular Activities 
  • EAL Support: Specialised English language support for communication and confidence

The IGCSE years are when students begin to take real ownership of their learning. It marks the beginning of a student‘s career path example, where choices start to align with long-term interests. In Years 10 and 11, Green Valley students continue to study core subjects. In Years 10 and 11, students begin their IGCSE journey. Core subjects, such as English, Mathematics, and Coordinated Science, remain essential. These build the academic strength students need to access a wide range of university and career paths.

Elective Subjects: Choosing Direction with Purpose

After building the solid foundation for knowledge, this is the first chance students begin personalising their academic direction. Green Valley offers a wide range of IGCSE electives from Business Studies, Economics, Geography, History, ICT, Art & Design, Drama, PE, to Computer Science. These subjects cover the essential knowledge that allows students to explore deeper into their interests and talents.

Career Curriculum
While students don’t need to have their future fully mapped out in Year 10, our programme gives them the structure and support to begin exploring it seriously. Every subject they choose becomes a stepping stone in their education and future career, reinforcing how secondary education for future careers starts to take real form.

Through our Career Curriculum, we offer:

  • The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI): In Year 10, students take the test to uncover their personality type and learn which work environments might suit them best.
  • Skills audit and development: Students reflect on their strengths and set personal goals to grow their skills over the coming years.
  • CVs and interview preparation: They learn to write strong CVs, create video resumes, and practise mock interviews before Term 3 work experience.
  • Research subject and area of interests: Year 11 students use their Unifrog account (the school career platform) to research their field of interests, and plot a pathway to their chosen goal.
  • Future education and apprenticeship preparation: Students learn how to research student career path examples, courses, entry requirements, and IB subject choices for their goals.
  • College research and application: By Year 12, students research college options, prepare their applications, and take confident steps towards higher education.

IB Diploma: A Real-World Viewfinder into Future Careers

In Years 12 and 13, students at Green Valley enter the IB Diploma Programme: a globally respected, university-preparation pathway that blends academic rigour with real-world readiness.

At this stage, students are no longer just exploring. They’re refining their direction, building focus, and preparing for the transition from school to higher education and future careers. With six subjects and three core components, Theory of Knowledge (TOK), Extended Essay (EE), and CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service), the IB helps students become independent thinkers with purpose and perspective.

Subject Choice: Matching Strengths to Future Goals

Students choose:

  • Three subjects at Higher Level (HL) for depth
  • Three at Standard Level (SL) for balance and breadth

  • HL Biology, Chemistry, and Psychology → ideal for medicine or health sciences
  • HL Maths, Economics, and Business → suited to finance, entrepreneurship, or international relations
  • HL Literature, History, and Visual Arts → a strong base for creative and humanities careers
