Moving into Secondary brings new academic expectations and more individual choices for students. As they progress through these years, subject choices and academic results become more important, alongside experiences that prepare them for greater independence, university and future careers.
Perhaps your child is moving into Secondary for the first time. Perhaps they are approaching IGCSE or joining a new school partway through their Secondary years. At this stage, choosing a school means looking at how students progress academically, what opportunities they have beyond their lessons and how they are supported as decisions about their future become more important.
Choosing a Secondary School Means Thinking Beyond the Next Academic Year
In Years 7–9, students continue to study a broad range of subjects. They build their knowledge across different subject areas while beginning to understand where their interests and strengths lie.
Students also take on more responsibility for their work as they progress through Secondary. Our teachers get to know their students well and support them as academic expectations change and their choices become more individual

Students at Green Valley
From IGCSE to the IB Diploma
Students move into IGCSE in Years 10–11. Subject choices become more individual at this stage, and students begin to consider how the subjects they choose may relate to what they want to study later.
In Years 12–13, students move on to the IB Diploma. University courses and destinations become a more immediate part of the conversation, and students begin preparing for the choices they will make after Green Valley.
Academic results are an important part of that preparation. In 2025, Green Valley students achieved an average IB score of 34 points, compared with a global average of 30.58. At IGCSE, 96% of results were graded A*–C.
Beyond Academic Results
Secondary school is not only about academic subjects. Our students can take on leadership roles and become involved in co-curricular activities, community projects and service experiences alongside their studies.
These are regular parts of school life at Green Valley. Students work with other people, take responsibility in different settings and spend time on interests outside their academic subjects. As they grow older, they have more opportunities to make their own decisions and take responsibility for what they do.

University and Careers Guidance
As students move through Secondary, conversations about university and future careers become more specific. We work with students as they explore different courses, countries and career options.
Students have opportunities to meet university admissions teams and attend university expos. Green Valley also hosts its own university fair every two years, giving students the chance to learn more about different universities and courses before they apply.
Our students have gone on to universities around the world, including University College London (UCL), King’s College London, the University of Manchester, the University of Bristol, the University of Toronto, the University of Hong Kong, the University of Sydney and Seoul National University, among many others.
When the time comes to apply, students receive individual guidance based on the courses and destinations they are considering. This includes support with university applications and the different requirements they may need to meet for their chosen courses.
